Marc Torbey-Helou, Senior Banker at Banque Libano-Française Represents Lebanon in New York as a 2019 SDG Pioneer

Marc Torbey-Helou, Senior Banker at Banque Libano-Française has been recognized by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) as a 2019 SDG Pioneer for his contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Every year, the UNGC celebrates a group of SDG Pioneers in recognition of their hard work and commitment to help deliver the SDGs. This year, the competition search for SDG Pioneers was focused on young professionals aged 35 and under. BLF nominated Marc for his contribution to the SDGs and mainly SDG 1 (No poverty), SDG 3 (Good health and wellbeing), SDG 4 (Quality education) and SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities).

Despite being injured in an accident that left him tetraplegic, Marc never stopped inspiring people to make a change around them.

He was the only country level-winner from the Middle East chosen as 2019 SDG Pioneer Lebanon and was invited to the UNGC Leader’s Week at the UN General Assembly in New York, from September 23 till September 26, 2019, that will showcase the stories and contributions of young professionals under 35 years old from varying sectors and encourage intergenerational dialogue to inspire people of all ages to take greater action towards achieving the 2030 Agenda. He will also be honored at the “Making Global Goals Local Business – Middle East” at the Grand Serail in October 14, 2019.

As a founding member of the Global Compact Network Lebanon (GCNL) since 2015, and a board member of the SDG Council since 2017, BLF is committed to apply and promote the United Nations SDGs within its sphere of influence.
